Want Claude to help rewrite a proposal, untangle a spreadsheet or work through code, but keep running into the region screen? Hong Kong users have described several approaches: an overseas VPN connection, an overseas-issued payment card, an iPhone subscription funded with Apple Gift Cards, or a platform such as Poe. Businesses also investigate cloud APIs.
Here is what those approaches actually involve, with the evidence separated from sales claims. Hong Kong remains absent from Anthropic’s direct Claude.ai and API supported-region lists on the check date. Anthropic’s current list
The eight routes below include Being’s own AI platform as an alternative for users whose priority is completing the work, rather than using a particular consumer app.
1. VPN: the approach behind many access tutorials
Online reports describe connecting through a VPN endpoint in a supported location, then opening Claude’s website or app. A September 2026 commercial tutorial mentions Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and the US. This shows that the approach is being promoted; it is not independently verified or guaranteed to work.
This addresses the connection layer. Account verification and subscription checkout are further steps, which explains why someone can reach the login screen but still fail to finish setup. Keep that distinction in mind when a tutorial promises that one VPN subscription solves everything.
2. Overseas accounts and cards: a reported route, with a dated example
A Hong Kong user’s online account dated 16 December 2024 describes successful Claude Pro and API payments with a UK-issued Visa debit card, UK SIM and VPN. This is a historical personal report, not a current guarantee.
The concept is to maintain your own account and pay through an overseas-issued method you control. Some 2026 online tutorials also suggest virtual cards, but we did not establish a current, independently verified Hong Kong success case for those suggested services. A virtual card is not automatically an eligible foreign payment method.
Anthropic’s current payment guidance checks the card’s origin country and billing address, including whether the address matches the bank’s records. That is more specific than simply having a Visa or Mastercard logo.
3. iPhone: overseas App Store and Apple Gift Cards
A Hong Kong user’s online account dated 1 April 2026 describes subscribing to Claude Pro using a US App Store account, a US Apple Gift Card balance, the official Claude iPhone app and a VPN. This is a first-person report that Being has not independently replicated.
The reported payment flow is: fund the relevant Apple Account with a gift card, redeem the credit, then select the subscription inside Claude’s app. Apple processes that purchase instead of Claude’s website checkout. Anthropic confirms that iOS subscriptions are billed through Apple.
The regional detail matters: Apple says gift cards cannot be redeemed outside their country or region of purchase. Account balance can pay for App Store subscriptions, but some purchases still require a card on file. Treat the tutorial as an anecdote, not proof that changing a store setting establishes eligibility.
4. Android: a Google Play claim worth reading carefully
A March 2026 online tutorial explicitly includes Claude and describes a US Play profile, a Visa or Mastercard and in-app subscription through a proxy connection. The publisher sells proxy and SMS services, so this is a commercial claim rather than independent testing.
Google’s current rules require being in the new country and having a payment method from it when establishing a new Play country. The minimum interval is now 90 days, subject to further restrictions, rather than the tutorial’s older annual rule. We found no sufficiently supported Claude-specific Google Play gift-card report to present that route as verified.
5. Poe: use Claude models through another interface
For drafting, summarising and comparing answers, Poe is worth investigating before spending hours on native-app setup. An August 2026 online report describes VPN-free access in Hong Kong. Local availability is reported rather than tested here, and it is not guaranteed for every account.
Poe offers official Anthropic-powered bots and point-based usage. Choose an official bot, check the model and message cost, and test a non-sensitive task. Check required features separately before assuming native-Claude feature parity.
6. Resellers, gift subscriptions and shared accounts
These are different arrangements. A reseller may deliver a subscription gift link, sell a pre-created account, or offer access to a shared login. An April 2026 Hong Kong marketplace listing advertises Claude gift-link delivery; that establishes the seller’s claim, not its authorisation. A June 2026 online report also describes users splitting Claude Pro logins.
Anthropic does offer genuine gift subscriptions, with no payment card required from the recipient at redemption. That does not establish a regional exception. Shared credentials are expressly prohibited by its consumer terms; a shared personal login is not an authorised team seat. Consumer terms
7. For businesses: Bedrock, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry
These official platforms expose Claude models through APIs for applications and workflows. They require cloud setup and billing; they do not automatically provide a Claude.ai subscription. Availability depends on the model, deployment and customer eligibility.
- Amazon Bedrock: AWS’s current matrix lists Claude Sonnet 5.5 with global inference from US East (N. Virginia), among other source regions.
- Google Cloud: the Claude documentation, now under Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, provides managed APIs. For example, its Sonnet 4.5 model page lists regional and global endpoints. Check lifecycle status before selecting an older model.
- Microsoft Foundry: Claude is offered with Azure-hosted and Anthropic-hosted options, depending on the model. Paid subscription and eligible billing-location requirements also apply.

Quick questions
Does a Pro subscription cover API spending?
No. Claude subscriptions and API access are billed separately.
What should I compare before paying?
Check the exact app or model, who bills you, renewal arrangements and who controls account recovery.
How should I test a work use case?
Use a public or fictional document. Record useful output, corrections required and total cost before expanding the pilot.
Before relying on any route: sustainability, terms and company rules
Check renewal reliability, account recovery, remaining gift-card balances and who controls your login or prompts. Keep account and billing details accurate. Changing an Apple Account’s country can also affect subscriptions and balances.
Recheck the current vendor and partner agreements before committing. Anthropic’s consumer and commercial terms incorporate its supported-region policy, and ownership restrictions can affect overseas entities. AWS’s Anthropic terms also require customers and users to comply with that policy. For Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry, check the agreement offered for the exact model and your customer and end-user locations; an overseas endpoint alone does not establish permission. Anthropic commercial terms
For work, obtain your organisation’s approval for the service, connection and data handling before uploading client files. Check retention, training settings, access controls and processing locations. Provider restrictions and the legality of a particular VPN use are separate questions. Being has not tested these regional workarounds; this dated guide is not legal, financial or compliance advice. Ask the provider and qualified advisers if eligibility or contractual obligations are unclear.
Being’s offering is separate from a direct subscription to any particular model vendor and does not override regional restrictions. Actual options depend on your task, model availability, vendor terms, region and subscribed plan.
